Pope Francis, a global voice for the poor, a passionate advocate for environmental stewardship, and a tireless peacemaker, passed away at the age of 88 on Easter Monday, 21 March 2025. Throughout his tenure, he consistently championed the cause of the marginalised, urging the world to confront the pressing challenges of climate change, inequality, and conflict.

Caritas calls on the global community to act urgently — demanding protection for civilians, humanitarian aid for those in desperate need, and the upholding of human dignity.

As a humanitarian organisation, we stand in solidarity with this message and share their appeal for justice and compassion.

As the impact of climate change continues to be felt, Pacific Island nations are facing an existential crisis—not only from rising seas and stronger storms but also from the mounting debt required to build resilience against these threats. 

Caritas believes this budget is well-intentioned but short-sighted and gives tax relief to the most well-off at the expense of those most in need.
