Why this day matters
The World Day of the Poor challenges us to see, hear and walk alongside those who are too often forgotten.
In his message for 2026, Pope Leo XIV reminds us that poverty is not only a lack of material resources. Many people experience loneliness, exclusion, injustice, homelessness, hunger, poor health and a loss of hope.
As followers of Jesus, we are called to create communities where every person is welcomed, known by name and treated with dignity.
