Season of Creation 2025: Turn Debt Into Hope
Season of Creation runs from 1 September to 4 October every year, and calls for all people of goodwill to act to protect the natural world and all who live in it. In the 2025 Jubilee Year, New Zealand can play a vital role in a global campaign for justice.

Caritas Aotearoa New Zealand is taking part in the global Caritas Turn Debt Into Hope initiative for this Jubilee Year.
This campaign highlights the urgent need for debt justice, especially for Pacific nations, many of which are now forced to borrow money to recover from climate disasters. This is stripping already vulnerable nations of the resources they need for health, education, and the futures of young people. Thankfully New Zealand has a world-leading model of providing grants instead of loans, but we need to act urgently to preserve this policy.
We are asking communities, parishes, youth groups and schools across New Zealand to mobilise during Season of Creation to help us:
Educate our communities about the debt crisis in the Pacific, and what New Zealand is doing to help
Tell our politicians and leaders how important it is to continue providing grants instead of loans
Spread word internationally about New Zealand’s successful policy
We will be providing resources, guides, and support throughout the year to help communities take part in this campaign. These can be used before, during or after Season of Creation (1 September-4 October), though this period will be our greatest focus. Sign up using the form above to stay updated as we continue creating resources and sharing stories, and see below for the resources we’ve already created.
