MOVE IT - Me Neke

A group of smiling people, including women and children, sitting and standing outside in a rural area with unfinished brick buildings in the background. Some are wearing colorful clothing and headscarves.

Caritas promotes authentic human development. This means development of the whole person. It provides for their economic, cultural, political, social and spiritual wellbeing.

Move It - Go the Distance

Go the distance and stand in solidarity with people displaced by climate emergencies. Around the world, families flee floods, droughts, and disasters - walking for days with only what they can carry, traveling long distances for water, or evacuating to safety.

Through this challenge, reflect on the Catholic social teaching principle of Participation - ensuring displaced communities can rebuild their lives with dignity.

Challenge Ideas:

  • Endurance Events: 24-hour relay walk, run, swim, or cycle - get sponsored per lap or distance covered

  • Carrying Challenges: Carry water buckets or loaded backpacks continuously, simulating displacement or water collection

  • Distance Challenges: Track all movement over 24 hours with a pedometer, or cover specific distances representing journeys to safety

As You Move, Reflect:

  • What would you carry if forced to flee your home?

  • How does climate change displace communities?

  • How can we support people rebuilding after disaster?

Your fundraising helps climate-vulnerable communities prepare for emergencies and build resilience through the He Oranga Taurikura programme.
