Case Study
Livelihood programmes in Tonga enable small community groups to set up businesses to earn extra income for important things like school fees and food. We provide revolving loans at affordable interest rates. When they are paid back they become available for another group to set up their business. Business ventures include chicken and pig farming, tapa making, mat weaving and crop growing.
Kalisi Fa’asolo lives in Neiafu, Vava’u, Tonga’s second largest island. She is part of the Amanaki Lelei (Good Hope Community) collective of five women. A Caritas loan enables women like Kalisi to buy materials to build chicken coops so that their chickens do not run away.
