About the opportunity:
This is an influential leadership role where you’ll drive international development and humanitarian programmes that amplify the voices of the poor and vulnerable. Reporting to the Chief Executive, you will oversee a skilled team, lead strategic partnerships, and ensure effective programme design, delivery, and evaluation. This role combines strategic vision, relationship management, and operational excellence to make a tangible impact in communities around the world.

Role description:
You’ll lead Caritas Aotearoa’s international aid and humanitarian initiatives, managing global partnerships, guiding programme strategy, ensuring compliance and impact, and championing Catholic social teaching through transformative development work.

Responsibilities will include:
● Leading and managing international development and humanitarian programmes
● Building and sustaining strong global and local partnerships
● Overseeing programme design, budgeting, monitoring, and evaluation
● Driving strategic planning and reporting across all programme areas
● Representing Caritas Aotearoa in national and international forums

This role will suit someone with all or some of the following
background/experience/qualities:

● Proven leadership in international development or humanitarian work (7+ years)
● Strong relationship management and partnership-building capability
● Skilled in programme management, budgeting, and impact reporting
● An understanding of Catholic Social Teaching and development principles
● Flexible, resilient, and culturally aware, with the ability to travel internationally

Education Lead

About the opportunity:

This is an inspiring opportunity to lead faith-based education programmes that make a tangible difference in communities across Aotearoa. Working within the Justice & Peace team, the Education Lead will shape and deliver impactful learning experiences grounded in Catholic Social Teaching and social justice. The role will see you developing strong relationships with schools, parishes, and partners, expanding engagement and educational reach while supporting the organisation’s mission of compassion, equity, and action for the common good.

Role description:

Reporting to the Head of Justice & Peace, this role leads the design, development, and delivery of Caritas’ education strategy, ensuring programmes are culturally responsive, mission-aligned, and financially sustainable

Responsibilities will include:

  • Designing and delivering national education initiatives in social justice and Catholic Social Teaching

  • Co-developing culturally grounded resources with Māori educators and communities

  • Building partnerships across schools, dioceses, and education networks

  • Managing programme budgets and identifying new funding opportunities

  • Evaluating programme reach, impact, and engagement outcomes

This role will suit someone with all or some of the following background/experience/qualities:

  • A tertiary qualification in education, theology, or community development

  • Experience in Catholic education or values-based learning environments

  • Understanding of Catholic Social Teaching and te ao Māori

  • Strong leadership, partnership, and programme design skills

  • A collaborative, innovative mindset and commitment to social justice
