Turning honey into hope in Solomon Islands

12 September 2025 - For years, Nellie worried about how to make ends meet. Work, in Solomons Islands, where she lives, was irregular. Her family sometimes struggled to cover the basics.

That began to change when she joined a beekeeping programme run through a Caritas partner organisation. With training in hive management, honey harvesting, and marketing, Nellie discovered a way to provide for her family.

“This project is the answer I’ve been looking for to pay my children’s school fees. The training was very practical and empowering,” she says with pride.

Nellie took part in a beekeeping course provided with Caritas support.

Nellie is one of many women learning beekeeping through our partnership with Rural Training Centres. For many families, honey has become more than food. It is a pathway to stable income, dignity, and opportunity for the next generation.

You can be part of this change

With your support, families across Solomon Islands, where a quarter of people live in poverty, are building sustainable livelihoods through honey production. The results are immediate and long-lasting: children staying in school, parents able to plan for the future, and village economies are strengthened.

Right now, every dollar you donate is multiplied by four through our partnership with the New Zealand Government. That means your gift goes further, helping more families like Nellie’s to turn their hard work into a brighter future.

Donate today and help unlock potential across the Pacific and Southeast Asia.

Help change more lives – $1 becomes $4 right now.

Every $10 you give becomes $40 thanks to the NZ Government. Your gift is multiplied by four, reaching even more young people like Nellie who are praying for a chance.
