Lent 2010: Working together in true communion
Lent 2010 begins on 17 February, and with it the invitation to walk more closely with Jesus, and respond to his call on earth. Lent is traditionally a time of prayer, fasting and almsgiving to the poor. Caritas' annual Lent Appeal is a practical way to give to those in need. We also provide material to help our spiritual reflection in Lent, and resources for schools to prepare for Easter.
Caritas' theme for Lent 2010 has been inspired by Pope Benedict's 2009 encyclical Caritas in Veritate in which he calls us on us to work together to achieve the good of all. “The development of peoples,” he says in paragraph 53, “depends , above, all on a recognition that the human race is a single family working together in true communion, not simply a group of subjects who happen to live side by side.”
Lent Appeal materials have been distributed to all parishes – if you have any inquiries about this, please contact Karla Paotonu karla@caritas.org.nz , ph 04 496 1742.
