Centre for Environmental Law and Community Rights (CELCOR)

Customary Land Rights Advocacy

CELCOR works with 18 community-based organisations (CBOs) in the nine provinces of Papua New Guinea that are the prime source of the nation’s biodiversity. Customary lands of the indigenous peoples are threatened by land conversion to plantations, as well as mining and logging.  CELCOR builds up the ability and legal knowledge of local CBOs to counter threats to community land rights. CELCOR was instrumental in helping establish a new Women in Oil Palm Association in November 2009.
