Nicaragua Livelihoods Programme

Caritas has been working with ADDAC since 2005. This programme strengthens rural agriculture-based livelihoods and community co-operatives. It incorporates and advocates for gender sensitivity within communities. It also promotes sustainability – both from an environmental perspective, and in ensuring the ongoing viability of small-scale rural production of goods for sale. This can help keep families stay together. In 2010, technical training and assistance was provided on the production of juice, jam, pickle, fruit-based liquor, cheese, honey products, natural medicines, soap and shampoo.

Gender and Human Rights

This programme has helped create self-help groups and networks of women and men community members who have become trainers, legal experts and counsellors themselves. The programme has won cooperation from local police and health professionals in combating gender-based violence.
