The Caritas network is expecting to be involved for five years in helping build a new Haiti after the devastating earthquake of 12 January 2010. The earthquake claimed more than 230,000 lives and affected 3 million people in one of the biggest disasters of recent times.
Two and a half years after the devastating January 12, 2010 earthquake, there is still an enormous amount of work to be done to rebuild life for Haitians. Caritas Confederation members in Haiti are involved in a range of activities including rebuilding schools and homes; providing better access to healthcare and education; improving sanitation infrastructures; trauma counselling; and programmes to support livelihoods.
