Submission on the Prisoners' and Victims' Claims (Expiry and Application Dates) Amendment Bill 2010

  • Caritas opposed the original Act in 2005 and opposes the extension of the Act's provisions for the same reasons. This Bill does not work in the best interests of prisoners, victims, nor the common good.
  • Denial of basic human dignity and revenge does not make for good legislation.
  • We still believe that the main outcome is likely to be that fewer prisoners will pursue complaints of abuse and violence, and prisons may potentially be more dangerous.
