Submission on Budget Policy Statement 2008

  • Caritas seeks further provision in the Budget for measures which address international and local poverty.
  • We agree with the four tests for tax cuts, and particularly welcome the provision that any personal tax cuts should not lead to greater inequalities in our society.
  • We look for a timetable for implementing New Zealand’s commitment to pay 0.7% of Gross National Income in Official Development Assistance.
  • We seek greater assistance for families who are dependent on benefits, and as a basic minimum, request that any personal tax cuts are passed on in their entirety to beneficiaries.
