Submission on the Terrorism Suppression Amendment Bill 2007
Summary
Caritas opposes this bill. In particular we oppose the intention to repeal provisions provided in the Terrorism Suppression Act 2002 which allow a defence of financing a terrorist organisation if the support had been intended for the purpose of advocating democratic government or the protection of human rights.
We also have serious concerns about the proposal to change the three yearly review of terrorist designations from judicial review to that of the Prime Minister.
