Submission on the Terrorism Suppression Amendment Bill 2007

  • Caritas opposes this bill.  In particular we oppose the intention to repeal provisions provided in the Terrorism Suppression Act 2002 which allow a defence of financing a terrorist organisation if the support had been intended for the purpose of advocating democratic government or the protection of human rights.
  •  We also have serious concerns about the proposal to change the three yearly review of terrorist designations from judicial review to that of the Prime Minister.
