Submission on the Electoral Finance Bill 2007

  • Caritas recognises the importance of addressing power imbalances that can result from inequalities in election spending.
  • Caritas does not believe this Bill adequately deals with the question of large donations to political parties.
  • Caritas opposes the clauses concerning the activities of third parties, as currently drafted in the Bill.
  • Caritas supports the policy objectives of the Bill, but does not believe the legislation as drafted is the best way of achieving those objectives.
