Submission on the Budget Policy Statement 2007

  • Caritas is looking to an increase in Overseas Development Assistance in the 2007 budget.
  • We are concerned that recent improvements in social spending have benefited those on middle incomes relative to the poorest sections of New Zealand society.
  • We feel that the perception that untargeted personal tax cuts are overdue is unjustified.
  • Caritas welcomes the inclusion in the Budget policy statement of environmental sustainability as one of five key areas of the government’s economic transformation agenda. However, we are concerned that the New Zealand Superannuation Fund appears to invest in companies that are not environmentally sustainable.
