Submission on Employment Relations (Probationary Employment) Amendment Bill 2006


  • Caritas opposes the 90-day probationary period for new employees.
  • However, Caritas supports the exploration of appropriate ways to support vulnerable groups into the workforce.
  • Caritas is particularly concerned by Section 69AA, which would ensure that probationary employment takes place outside the operation of a collective or individual employment agreement.
  • The vulnerable groups of workers who most stand to benefit from a more accessible entry to the workforce are also those who are most vulnerable to unjust dismissal.
