Submission on Easter Sunday Trading Bills 2006

Summary

This submission comments on both the Easter Sunday Shop Trading Amendment Bill and the Shop Trading Hours Act Repeal (Easter Trading) Amendment Bill.

Caritas does not support removing trading restrictions on Easter Sunday.
We do not accept that the good faith provisions of the Employment Relations Act 2000 are sufficient to protect employees’ right to practice their faith on Easter Sunday.
We do not support the government delegating authority for fundamental decisions about working hours to local authorities.
