Submission on Prisoners and Victims Claims Bill 2005

Summary

• While Caritas understands the motivation to seek compensation for victimes from a payout to offenders, we strongly oppose this bill.
• The bill will not ultimately benefit victims because offenders will be discouraged from making claims.
• The bill will result in a reduced ability to control prison abuse through court action.
