2009 - Justice and reconciliation

In the light of calls for ever tougher sentencing, this booklet considers Catholic social teaching on how we respond to crime and violence in our society. We are called to reconsider our attitudes to crime and punishment. There are questions over whether our processes work for the human dignity of victims and offenders, whether they encourage repentance and reconciliation, and whether they allow both victims and offenders to rehabilitate into society.
