Caritas Aotearoa New Zealand is supporting the efforts of Caritas Tonga, who are providing trauma counselling in response to the tragic sinking of the Princess Ashika. Caritas is continuing its relief and development programmes in Sudan, amidst the expulsion and closure of many aid agencies in Darfur, and widespread violence in Southern Sudan. Social Justice Week 2009 focuses on crime, punishment and imprisonment. Caritas resources focus on the need to put a Catholic understanding of reconciliation back into the justice system.
