Creating inclusive and connected communities

Social Justice Week 2010 falls on September 12-18. This year, we build on the New Zealand Catholic Bishops Conference concern to encourage parishes to respond appropriately to cultural diversity. The Bishops have sent a formation booklet entitled Creating inclusive and connected communities to all parish councils. It aims to provoke reflection and review on how welcoming and inclusive parish communities are.
Caritas – responsible each year for implementing Social Justice Week – takes the theme of inclusive and connected communities further, encouraging the Catholic community to reflect on how it is recognising and reflecting the diversity in our midst.
Parishes have been sent Social Justice Week resources to arrive by the beginning of August. These include the Social Justice Series booklet Your people will be my people, poster, additional copy of the Bishops' formation booklet, and special r esources for parishes:
- Liturgical resources
- Children's liturgy material
- Parish youth group material
- Newsletter notices
Schools resource material is built around the CD-Rom for Years 1-13 called No longer strangers: recognising our cultural diversity. Read about our schools resources here.
