World Humanitarian Day
On World Humanitarian Day (19 August) 2010, Caritas Internationalis is calling for more investment to help people prepare for disasters.
Let us also remember humanitarian workers and local communities facing the devastating floods in Pakistan. Read Caritas reports from the field here.
World Humanitarian Day marks the day when, in 2003, the United Nations office in Iraq was bombed, killing 22 people, including the then UN High Commissioner for Human Rights and Special Representative of the Secretary-General to Iraq.
Caritas Emergency Response
Caritas Aotearoa New Zealand responds to emergencies around the world primariliy through Caritas Internationalis, our Caritas confederation consisting of 165 sister organisations operating in 200 countries and teriitories. Wherever a disaster occurs, one of our partners will be there, able to utilise local people and supplies to provide an effective and efficient response.
Caritas Internationalis posts over 100 States of Emergency each year. The majority of these are not even mentioned in our news media. Caritas New Zealand usually limits itself to launching two special appeals a year (more may over-burden our supporters), which often focus on a current State of Emergency. However, Caritas Aotearoa New Zealand can channel your donation to all disasters broadcast in our media, as well as many that are not.
All you have to do is state what your donation is for, and we will transfer your money to our partner organisation working on-the-ground in the area. If you want further confirmation that we can in fact get your money to where you want, simply ring us toll free on 0800 22 10 22.
Also find out how you can help, by making a donation.
