One of the activities for justice education is fundraising. While it is only one of several objectives, fundraising can demonstrate, in a tangible way, concern and compassion towards those who live with injustice.
Fundraising can be a positive activity embraced by a school community at short notice (emergencies) or have a longer-term focus (development). You can click here to see some ideas around the purpose of fundraising: Principles for School Fundraising.
Emergencies
Caritas is still accepting donations toward Haiti Earthquake Relief. We appreciate the efforts schools and students have made to support people in extreme need.

Thank you also to schools who gave generously towards relief work in Samoa, Tonga, the Philippines and Indonesia in late 2009. View Help for the Tsunami - Tonga & Samoa 2009 (powerpoint, 7MB)

Thank you! Your efforts raised about $60,000 for Tonga and Samoa from New Zealand schools.
Fundraising 2010
Schools received various fundraising materials with their Lent 2010 Resources, which included our Lifestyle Calendar, Koha Box, and new Fundraising Ideas booklet. Some schools also used our Survive a Slum CD-ROM - how to rough it while raising funds. Please send photos and stories of your fundraising efforts to our Education Coordinator Catherine Gibbs.

Many schools took part in Live Simply Day on 26 March. Students come together for a Poverty Banquet or Live Simply meal. In return for a donation reflecting what they'd pay for a lunch order or full meal, they receive a small serving of food.
Schools have taken part in a wide range of other activities to support the work of Caritas, and donations are still coming in for the many projects we support. Caritas currently supports more than 40 community development projects in 22 countries.
